Important Update: Clarification on NDIS Funding for GPS Trackers

We want to address recent updates to NDIS funding regulations, as there’s been some misinformation causing understandable concern among OTs, health professionals, and families. 

What You Need to Know: 

As of October 3, 2024, the Australian Government has introduced changes limiting NDIS funding for certain types of technology, specifically smartwatches and other mainstream devices that provide non-essential features like internet browsing and gaming. However, our devices do not fall under the category of “smartwatches.” 

Our GPS trackers are dedicated safety devices, specifically designed to support freedom and independence for neurodiverse individuals, older adults, and those living with dementia. 

Unlike smartwatches, our devices focus solely on essential safety functions, such as: 

• Automatic Fall Alert: Sends immediate alerts to caregivers if a fall is detected. 
• SOS Button: Allows the wearer to instantly call for help in emergencies. 
• GPS Tracking: Provides real-time tracking and location updates, ensuring loved ones or caregivers can quickly locate the wearer if needed. 

Our goal is to help individuals maintain quality of life and experience safe independence, not provide general entertainment or internet connectivity. 

Clarifying NDIS Funding for GPS Safety Trackers Under the new NDIS guidelines, funding is generally limited to supports explicitly outlined in a participant’s plan, or those approved through an NDIA 'replacement support determination.'
